Announcing my new job!

dumm dumm de daaaaa...I have a new announcement to make. I have accepted the Training Coordinator position at the Foundation Center here in Atlanta. I start on Monday. Sounds a lot like the previous post, nevertheless, I'm excited.

I have obtained my Kemetic Yoga certification and am continuing my yoga practice. I have included Bikram (hot yoga), Ashtanga, and Iyengar styles. Practicing yoga for me is about creating a lifestyle that promotes health in all areas of my life.

Since my last position with Robert Half, I have been eating mainly cooked foods with an exception of a daily salad. When I was eating more living foods while living in DC, I felt soooo much better. My body was more supple, I had so much energy that I could barely sleep and I didn't have discomfort during my menses. The only draw back was the amount of weight that I lost. I'm smaller now than I was in high school. My raw food diet made me lose weight, which definitely was not the intent. The fact was that I wasn't as hungry and didn't feel the need to snack and consume large portions of food.

My parents were relieved when they saw me in person. They were concerned that I was losing too much weight. I have friends who want to include more living foods into their diets which has inspired me to return to my living foods path. Group support is always good when making changes.

My goal is to eat a living foods diet once a week for the next month. Join me in my journey.

My New Adventure

I was offered a new job as a Staffing Manager for a top staffing company. I start on Monday and I'm excited about this new opportunity.

I'm also still in the editing phase of my book. I spoke with my publisher today and although the manuscript is okay, I still have some serious work to do. I'm starting to get antsy which usually signals that the end is near.

My junior year of high school I wanted to change schools because I wasn't doing well. Junior year was painful. I stuck it out and turned things around my senior year and with the help of God and my guidance counselor, I graduated.

I got antsy my Junior year of college on the tennis team too. After junior year, I wanted to quit. God's grace and good coaching saw me through. My senior year, our team won the MEAC Championship.

My feelings about my book is evidence to me that publication is near. I'm pressing on in full confidence that I will see this project through as well.

Kemetic Yoga Journal

I am blessed to know Master Yoga Teacher Brother Yirser Ra Hotep. He is the founder and instructor of my Kemeitc Yoga Teacher Certification Program. I've been practicing yoga on and off for 10 years and was introduced to it by Dr. Dana Dennard, scholar and community activist in Tallahassee, Florida during my senior year of college at FAMU. Once I began, I was hooked. I am drawn to the physical and spiritual aspects of the practice and was often disappointed when I would go to other yoga classes that stripped away the spirituality of it all.

In 2001, When I was living back in Milwaukee, Wisonsin, where I was born and raised, I used to drive to Chicago each week to take Brother Yirser's classes. I'm proud to be a founding member of the Kemetic Institute of Yoga Instructors in Atlanta. Now, about my practice...

My focus is on the Maat Ka. I love the fluidity of the poses. I still need to refer to the pages, but I nearly have it memorized. I have also been practicing sitting on my toes (name of posture?). I can do so for 3 minutes now. When I started I could only hold it for probably less than a minute. I've been practicing for 30 minutes each day so far, minus two days. I know that I have to work on my consistency. My body naturally craves certain postures and I always listen. However, being consistent is a part of my personal development process and I see practicing my yoga as a part of my development process.

I have read several of the recommended books, but they are in storage in Indianapolis, therefore I am looking for them at various libraries. I could use a serious refresher.

Yoga for me is about spritual and personal growth as well as about connecting with others. I look forward to seeing everyone again at the next session.

Asia & Patrick in Atlanta

Well, it has been a while and Patrick and I are settled in our new city, Atlanta! I love it so far. I wish I could scoop all of my family members up and relocate them here. Ahhhhh bliss. At least my parents are coming to visit this week. I'm thrilled!

My book is progressing. I received the edited version back and now I have to read through it again to accept, reject and make changes.

I've already joined a teacher certification class in Kemetic Yoga and will update my blog and include my yoga journey.

35th Annual Family Day Celebration

On Sunday, November 19, 2006, we had our 35th annual family day celebration held at my Aunt Yvonne's school, Agape. My mother was the lead organizer and this year we honored three of my mother's siblings, (Uncle Ben, deceased, but represented by his daughter Nina), Aunt Ayesha, and my Uncle Rachman and of course my grandmother Madea. Every year kids get bigger and new ones are born. I have so many cousins now that if I don't see them in a year, I barely recognize them. I am so happy to have been there to see the joy on the faces of all of my relatives. Even though I missed taking pictures of a few folks, I managed to get the majority. Please enjoy the photos and pass this blog on to other relatives.

Peace,
Asia
